Technical Research Associate (Centre for Functional Genomics)

£28,762 rising annually to £31,411 Full Time, Fixed Term - Researcher

The Centre for Functional Genomics is recruiting a fixed-term Technical Research Associate until 30 September 2023.

The successful candidate will play a central role in an ambitious, BBSRC- funded project which aims to generate establish a biological resource to enable the in-depth study of transcription factor function in Drosophila by generating and injecting a collection of plasmids to allow the CRISPR-mediated endogenous tagging of all Drosophila transcription factors with an exchangeable epitope.

You will be responsible for:

- collaborating closely with the line manager and other team members on the research project to establish a collection of transgenic Drosophila lines with tagged transcription factors.

- Molecular cloning of transgenesis constructs and generation of transgenic fly strains using microinjections and Drosophila genetics.

- Distributing fly lines and constructs to the research community.

- Planning and carrying out experimental work, keeping accurate laboratory notebooks, and report writing.

- Assisting with the general running of the research group

As Research Assistant you should have:

- A degree in Genetics, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology or equivalent or several years of experience working in a lab environment

- Experience with general molecular biology methods, especially molecular cloning.

- Good knowledge of Drosophila biology and CRISPR-mediated transgenesis.
