Technical Research Assistant (Centre for Functional Genomics)

£25,642 rising annually to £27,929 pro rata Part Time, Fixed Term - Professional Ser

Part Time (18.5 hours per week).

The Centre for Functional Genomics is recruiting a fixed-term Technical Research Assistant until 30 September 2023. Starting as soon as possible.

The overall purpose of the role is to contribute to the establishment of a library of plasmids for transgenesis of Drosophila and the respective transgenic fly strains for the analysis of transcription factors.

You will be responsible for:

- Collaborating closely with the line manager and other team members on the research project to establish a collection of transgenic Drosophila lines with tagged transcription factors

- Molecular cloning of transgenesis constructs and generation of transgenic fly strains using microinjections and Drosophila genetics

- Maintaining fly stocks and preparing fly food

- Providing administrative support to the research group, purchasing of goods and services

- Assisting with the general running of the research group.

As Technician you should have:

- A Certificate or Diploma in Applied Science or Similar

- Experience in working in a molecular biology lab and/or with Drosophila.
