Position Overview
The Technical Product Manager contributes to the planning, design, and
development of enterprise applications. This position is responsible for the
success of a product or family of products. This position will work closely
with cross-functional business leaders, peers, and technology leadership to
ensure systems are positioned for the growth of the University. This includes
performing or supervising analysis, design, development, and testing, to
ensure the deployment of reliable, secure, and scalable business-critical
applications and platforms. The Technical Product Manager works in a
collaborative environment with business and technology owners and fosters a
culture of teamwork and support across the University and within the
technology team.
This position is a blend of product and project leadership and will require
partnering with cross functional teams to achieve high performance levels with
application services and support the alignment of team activities with the
University's business needs.
Duties may include:
Understanding and representing user needs.
Defining a vision and roadmap for a product.
Aligning stakeholders around the vision for the product.
Prioritizing product features and capabilities.
Managing a product backlog.
Overseeing development stages and evaluating progress.
Serving as a liaison between department stakeholders and development.
Collaborating across teams to empower independent decision-making.

Unit Overview
Enterprise Applications (a department within OIT – Office of Information
Technology) supports the key administrative computing systems for the
University of Idaho. These systems include enterprise business applications
such as Ellucian Banner ERP, UI's student, faculty, and staff dashboard, and
UIdaho.edu, as well as supporting several custom-developed applications that
serve departments across the university. Enterprise Application's focus is on
providing outstanding customer support and maximizing the end user experience,
and helping colleges and departments identify the appropriate technology
solution for real business problems with the goal of increasing overall
productivity and efficiency.

Position Responsibilities
Key Accountability Provide Vison and Leadership for a Product or Product
Portfolio by:
Job Duties
Serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a Product or Portfolio of
related Products.
Understanding of available Enterprise Platforms.
Understanding of and representing user needs.
Defining a vision for a product and creating product roadmaps.
Aligning stakeholders around the vision for the product.
Prioritizing product features and capabilities.
Ensuring effective cross-functionality and collaboration between teams.
Determining metrics for success.
Collecting and interpreting customer feedback
Coordinate with other Product Managers on prioritizing, scheduling,
architecting, and communicating change across the University.
Managing customer satisfaction and well as adhering to service level
targets.
Key Accountability Provide Product Ownership and Project Management by:
Job Duties
Ensuring development projects and software deployments meet business
requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and comply with all
applicable security, privacy, audit requirements and regulations and
delivered with the highest quality.
Managing the product lifecycle, creating upgrade and testing schedules and
coordinating regression, QA and UAT testing.
Managing a product backlog, gathering requirements and user stories,
prioritizing tasks, monitoring progress, and providing feedback.
Developing technical design documents, architectural diagrams and process
flows by collaborating with peers and team members.
Performing continuous review of technologies, industry standards and
industry-related developments and making recommendations relative to the
need for further research and associated changes.
Delivering projects and initiatives to meet organizational priorities and
timelines.
Key Accountability Manage Key Partner Relationships by:
Job Duties
Representing organizational IT in meetings related to your supported
product family.
Creating and promoting a culture of excellent customer service.
Establishing and maintaining ties with colleagues throughout the
institution to ensure optimal collaboration and coordination of effort.
Maintaining relationships with technology vendors for the department
and/or business owners.
Maintaining relationships with leadership, business owners and end users
to better understand their needs and address organizational goals.
Position Qualifications
Required Experience
Three years of experience working with software applications in a
technical or functional support role
Prioritizing work and ensuring projects and workloads are completed on
time
Collaborating with diverse stakeholders across functional areas
Translating business-to-technical requirements (or vice versa)
Working as part of a project team
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
Additional Preferred
Five or more years of experience working with SaaS based software
applications in a technical or functional leadership role (preferably
Enterprise Content Management applications).
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management of Information Systems,
Information Technology, or related field.
Agile Certification (e.g., Product Owner, Scrum Master or similar)
ITIL Certification
Experience with:
Higher Education technology.
Modern API development with web services.
Understanding the relationships between ERP, CRM, CMS, third-party
solutions, relational databases.
Source Code Control / Versioning tools (e.g., Git).
Unit-test frameworks, testing automation and CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure
DevOps, Selenium, JUnit, GitLab CI/CD)
