About The Position
Reporting to the Manager of Bioresources and Biosafety, the Technical Coordinator for Animal & Aquatics/Facility Manager oversees the daily technical operations and support for RMIT's Animal Facility. This role includes managing a team of technical staff, ensuring that training and resources align with stakeholder needs, and surpassing National Code standards for animal care.
The individual in this position will collaborate effectively across various organizational levels, building strong working relationships with Research Ethics STEM Schools, the College Office, the Property Services Group, and other technical teams.
Occasional out-of-hours work may be required, subject to mutual agreement.
To be successful in this position, you'll have:
Experience in coordinating technical support for animal research, including planning, scheduling, and supervising technical support.
Knowledge of animal husbandry, welfare, production, environmental enrichment, and medical treatment of laboratory animals.
Understanding of the national code and legislative requirements for animal experimentation and welfare.
Knowledge of health and safety legislation and experience in implementation safe work practices.
Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
