    About Us

    The MRO works closely with Monash researchers, faculties, funding bodies and industry to facilitate the University's research objectives. It does this through an active program of identifying and developing funding opportunities, providing active and timely assistance to researchers in the grant application process, administering awards, and providing statistical research data. With a clear purpose, proactive staff, and new technologies, we make tangible contributions to the development, management, and deliverance of research with positive economic, social, and environmental impact in resolving the global challenges of our age.

    The Opportunity

    The Monash Research Office is seeking two experienced research application specialists to join the Office as Team Leaders in the Applications service area.

    Following a review of the MRO, these are newly configured continuing roles designed to support research operations as we embark on transforming our service delivery model.

    The scope of the applications service includes funding opportunity dissemination, information sessions, application review for compliance and eligibility, submission and rejoinders/rebuttal review, for grants and fellowships from national and international funding sources.

    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Applications these critical management positions are responsible for each leading a team of research administrators in the timely and effective delivery of application services to the Monash research community.

    Your key responsibilities

  • Managing and coordinating the operation of value-add research application - related services
  • Provision of specialist, expert advice, and reports for senior management
  • Coaching and mentoring staff to achieve a highly trained, motivated, and efficient team with a strong customer focus
  • Working collaboratively within the MRO to support team goals
  • Developing and implementing plans, processes, policies, KPIs and frameworks to support and improve performance and success
  • Developing and maintaining strong partnerships and networks with other relevant business units, functional areas, internal and external stakeholders
  • About you

    You must be looking to advance your career in research management at a one of Australia's largest and highly ranked universities.

    You will have a relevant qualification and substantial experience in research management, particularly with managing significant volumes of grant and fellowship applications.

    Your expertise and initiative, combined with your ability to work as an excellent team player will be vital to your success in this role, as well as:

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the research environment and funding schemes
  • Demonstrated project management, prioritisation, and time management skills with an ability to respond to changing priorities and deadlines in high volume environments
  • High level problem solving and analytical skills, ability to research and analyse material, identify key issues, and produce high level outcomes
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, and consultation skills, including an ability to exercise initiative, tact, and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters
