    Teaching Fellow (Social Sciences)

    UE07 £34,304 - £40,927 (per annum, pro rata)

    College of Art, Humanities and Social Sciences/Centre for Open Learning/Open Studies

    Part-Time, 10.5 hours per week (0.3 FTE)

    Fixed Term until 31/07/2023

    We are looking for a Psychology Teaching Fellow to deliver courses within the International Foundation Programme and Short Courses at the Centre for Open Learning in 22/23. The successful candidate will be a graduate with relevant teaching experience (preferably international students and adult learners) have excellent communication skills and be able to fulfil the administrative responsibilities related to teaching. Applications from candidates with a specialism in Developmental Psychology are particularly welcome. This is a fixed-term post to cover the maternity leave of the permanent postholder.

    The Opportunity:

    This is a fixed-term post to cover the maternity leave of the permanent post holder.

    The post holder will deliver an introductory Psychology course which will be offered at the Holyrood Campus and forms part of the International Foundation Programme at the Centre for Open Learning. This credit-bearing course is scheduled for 19 September – 2 December 2022, with lectures on Tuesdays at 11.00-12.20 and tutorials at 13.00-14.20, 14.30-15.50 and Thursdays at 13.00-14.20 and 15.00-16.20. The final course assessment will be due in mid- December.

    The post holder will also deliver two non-credit Short Courses. These include an introductory Psychology course with classes from Friday 20 January to 24 March 2023 at 14.10-16.00, and a Developmental Psychology course with classes from Thursday 20 April to 22 June 2023 at 11.10-13.00.

    In addition, there may be teaching opportunities on other courses that become available; the successful candidate would have the opportunity to apply for related internal work across programmes and initiatives offered by the Centre for Open Learning.

    Your skills and attributes for success:

  • First Degree in relevant subject and/or relevant postgraduate study
  • Demonstrable experience of learning, teaching and scholarship in areas relevant to the subject area e.g. Higher Education, Further Education, Continuing Education and/or Widening Participation
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching, learning, course/materials design and assessment in the subject area
  • Innovative and creative approach to teaching, course development and assessment
  • A demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion
