    Teaching Fellow in Fashion

    UE07, £35,333.00 - £42,155.00 per annum, 28 hours p/w, Open-ended

    The Edinburgh College of Art is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active individual for the post of Teaching Fellow in Fashion in the School of Design.

    The Opportunity:

    The post-holder will be a motivated practitioner, within a discipline pertinent to Fashion Design and you will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of a variety of approaches to creative and innovative fashion design practice and teaching. These skills will be evidenced by appropriate academic achievement, and ideally you will be able to demonstrate a track record of excellent and extensive international industry experience. You will also demonstrate a strong understanding of graduate employability needs, evidencing an acute awareness of contemporary fashion design contexts and helping to make connections and collaborations with fashion industry sectors.

    The post further involves the role of course organiser and undertaking citizenship and/or administrative duties in relation to teaching management, student support and/or other university-related activities.

    The programme places a strong focus on design addressing diversity, equality, inclusion and well-being, and the successful post holder will be able to demonstrate an understanding of this important subject in relation to ongoing needs in Fashion Design.

    You will demonstrate a strong ability to utilise your professional experience to develop progressive teaching techniques for the delivery of key skills associated with the discipline of fashion including silhouette and range planning, tailoring, outerwear, pattern cutting, material sourcing and development, print, fashion sketch and illustration and portfolio development.

    Your skills and attributes for success

  • Educated to HE level in a relevant subject, supported by relevant qualifications.
  • Ability to teach Fashion Design to UG level.
  • Evidence of a portfolio of extensive industry knowledge and practice.
  • An acute understanding of contemporary international fashion design.
  • Experience of course writing and curriculum development.
  • Experience of teaching and educational administration in higher/further education.
  • Evidence of the ability to assimilate theory and practice, through practice and teaching.
  • Experienced in a range of methods of teaching and delivery of course content.
  • Ability to teach and deliver workshops, seminars and tutorials across different teaching levels including undergraduate and possibly postgraduate.
  • Appropriate practice for effective engagement with industry through projects, internships and competitions.
  • Confident, clear communicator with obvious passion for the subject of Fashion
  • Empathetic and student-focused approach to teaching.
  • Ability to motivate students
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team
  • Display evidence of being able to organise, prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Ability to provide results and records required by the School of Design in a timely manner
