Job Summary

The Second Language Acquisition Program in the Department of Teaching and Learning is seeking a Lecturer to help prepare future teachers (K-12) in English as a Second Language (ESL). The individual will serve as a bridge between programs as the Lecturer will teach second language acquisition (specifically ESL) content from an early childhood lens in the Early Childhood program, and also teach second language acquisition content from a K-12 lens to students who major and minor in ESL education. Some supervision of students in schools may also be required.

The position is for the 2023-2024 academic year.

  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for four courses, including assessment of student performance
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course
  • Works with the ESL Program Director to develop courses and program
  • Available to teach day and/or evening classes in a face-to-face format
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree with a specialty or focus in teaching English as a second language (ESL) or early childhood education related field
  • Experience of at least two years of teaching in the areas of ESL and an early childhood education related field
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certificate or ability to be certified in ESL education and an early childhood education related field
  • Experience with inclusive education and culturally/linguistically responsive teaching in urban settings
  • Teaching experience in higher education focused on second language acquisition and the development and education of young children
  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in an education related field
