  • About This Opportunity

    The primary focus of the role is to provide support for research systems managed by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).

    A key research system currently being developed is Research Infrastructure Management System (RIMS), an enterprise research booking systems for instruments UQ wide. This system went live in one facility and more facilities or institutes will start using this system in the coming year. Initially, this position will work closely with the RIMS project team to develop a deep understanding of the system processes. As more and more facilities start using RIMS, this position will work more closely with the Research Systems team that looks after research management systems in business as usual.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    The successful candidate will be asked to provide basic support to users of RIMS system, update documentations, draft communications and provide basic reports. The Research Systems Support Officer will be the first point of contact for institutes, school and other parties that use RIMS and other research systems within the portfolio.

  • Develop a deep understanding of system and business processes to support the RIMS project team and RIMS users
  • Actively participate in team initiatives and projects and cooperate with team members in a manner that reflects a commitment to team goals and objectives, effective communication, information sharing and problem solving practices
  • Provide first line support for other research systems that are managed by the Research Management Systems Team
  • Respond to enquiries or refer correspondence for action or advice, to relevant colleagues and seek timely follow up and resolution of issues as required

  • Proven experience of working with IT systems, Data analytics, Databases and other IT systems
  • Understanding of or the ability to rapidly gain the understanding of the higher education sector and in particular university-based research management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including experience in writing clear and concise reports, and demonstrated excellence in presentation skills
  • An ability to read, understand and create / communicate technical and complex documentation, and a high level of digital literacy
  • Ability to initiate projects and bring them to a satisfactory conclusion within the specified timeframe. A thorough knowledge of the University's structure, policies and procedures, in particular as they relate to the research lifecycle, or the ability to gain this knowledge quickly
  • Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and at least four (4) years of subsequent experience working in the higher education sector; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Ability to develop and document business requirement specifications including documenting process flows
  • Experience writing project roll out and engagement plans in large, complex organisations
  • Experience working in teams across organisational units, including influencing and coordinating disperse stakeholders towards a common goal.
  • What We Can Offer

    This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to December 2023 at HEW Level 7.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538 - $98,719 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,929 - $115,501 per annum.
