Project/Unit Description
GTRI's Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division (AWTD) in the Advanced
Concepts Laboratory (ACL) seeks qualified candidates for the position of
Systems Engineer. This position will be in AWTD's Threat and Assessment
Branch, which focuses on the assessment of threats and technical enablers
critical to ground maneuver operations. The position involves applying
technical skills to support the development and assessment of advanced
warfighting technologies and concepts. The position involves characterizing
unmanned systems and associated enablers through laboratory testing and
operational field testing as well as multi-modal signature collection and
analysis. Qualified candidates will be enthusiastic about learning about new
technologies and assessing ways for them to be used in operational
environments for the warfighter. AWTD engages in research that is related to
counter-proliferation technologies, special operations enablers and advanced
ground maneuver concepts. Altogether, AWTD provides technology development and
tactical analysis for countering weapons of mass destruction, threat
assessment and wargaming of ground-maneuver and asymmetric warfare, and rapid
technology integration and prototyping for rapid reaction warfighting
capabilities for U.S. Government and other sponsors.
The Advanced Concepts Laboratory develops tailored solutions for a broad range
of national security challenges through disciplined application of physics-
and effects-based modeling to realizable systems, augmented with prototype
development and testing. ACL's research thrusts extend across domains, and
include bio-, chemical-, RF-, and optical-sensor physics; materials science
and engineering; electromagnetic theory, computation, structures, and
measurements; electronic warfare techniques and applications; operational
scenario modeling and simulation; traditional and asymmetric threat analysis;
and ground maneuver warfare.
Job Purpose
Systems Engineers lead technical teams through systems definition and
requirements engineering, design synthesis, and systems analysis and the
design, implementation, operation and technical management of systems
projects.
Key Responsibilities
Create product or system definitions and conduct initial requirements
analysis.
Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system
attributes.
Analyze product or system functionality as defined by requirements.
Interface with and learn how to work with disparate engineering teams for
technical tasking.
Additional Responsibilities
Research, planning, development, and documentation of system test
activities including development of test cases, procedures, plans, and
reports for sponsor research and development programs.
Testing includes both laboratory and operational work, to include field
testing.
Analyze data using a variety of different programming codes in order to
perform data analysis.
Work with complex systems and be strong in documentation and report
writing.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Excellent written and communication skills, example writing samples may be
requested during the interview process.
Must be able and willing to travel in support of field test events.
Willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Must be eligible to obtain a DoD Clearance.
Analyze data using a variety of different programming codes in order to
perform data analysis.
Experience working with complex systems and be strong in documentation and
report writing.
Knowledge of Electromagnetics and RF systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Active TS/SCI Clearance.
3-5+ years of relevant experience.
Candidates should have experience working with department of defense
(either as military, civilian, or contractor).
Knowledge of Matlab or Python for data analysis.
Experience in the development of unmanned systems.
Ability to write and execute test plans.
Ability to rapidly develop scripts and process data.
Knowledge of radar cross section.
Travel Requirements
10%-25% travel

U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for
this position must be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security
clearance.
