Reporting to the Circulation Librarian, the Supervising Library Associate manages and supervises the Isché Library during evening and weekend hours. This includes providing service to patrons, maintaining appropriate library environment, managing the Circulation desk, and supervising student workers. Because this position manages the closing of the Library, the Supervising Library Associate is required to work until the Library closes, normally Sunday-Thursday.

Additional Position Information

Shift: 2:30pm to 11:00pm most days

  • Staffs the circulation desk
  • Maintains the patron database in the ILS
  • Monitors the Circulation email account and the library chat service and answers the incoming main telephone line.
  • Circulates materials
  • Places holds on materials, recalls materials, and notifies patrons when materials are available
  • Retrieves reserve materials on demand and maintains reserve shelves
  • Assists patrons in use of multi-media materials and equipment, and services equipment
  • Searches the stacks for materials reported missing or long overdue
  • Keeps and compiles daily statistics
  • Assists with shelving and routine pick-up of materials
  • Interprets library policy
  • Functions as sole full-time employee on duty, nights and weekends, monitoring the facility, and ensuring the safety and security of the library and its users
  • Public Service

  • Answers ready-reference and directional questions over the telephone, in person and via the chat service
  • Provides accurate referral to proper agencies within the Library or Health Sciences Center
  • Maintains current knowledge of reference/reserve materials, indexes, databases and assists patrons in the use of them
  • Aids interlibrary loan staff with the retrieval of materials from the collection and with photocopying, scanning, and electronically sending materials to patrons
  • Assists patrons with interlibrary loan requests
  • Student Worker Supervision

  • Supervises, hires, trains, schedules, assigns duties, and evaluates up to six part-time student workers
  • Serves as the point of communication between student workers and other public service staff
  • Serves as PeopleSoft timekeeper for student worker
  • Signs timekeeper correction forms for student workers as needed Interpret and enforce employment policies with the help of the Circulation Librarian
  • Research and Education Services

  • Supports the Research and Education department
  • Assists with projects such as the archival scanning, inventory of the library collection, displays, signage, reports, brochures
  • Manages poster printing service, in conjunction with the Circulation Librarian
  • Interlibrary Loans/Document Delivery

  • Helps the interlibrary loan staff with the retrieval of materials from the collection and with photocopying, scanning, and electronically sending materials to patrons; assists patrons with interlibrary loan requests.
