OPEN TO LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY POST GRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENTS ONLY Voluntary Subwarden – Royce HallA vacancy has arisen for a Subwarden to join the existing team within Royce Hall of Residence. Applications are invited from post graduate research students of the University. The post will provisionally start 16th September 2024 in time for the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements
Free accommodation is available during term time, The accommodation available (Blk 22) is only suitable for a single person. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided Monday to Friday during term time in Hall.
DutiesSubwardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of 374 students and which helps to ensure the smooth running of the hall.
Personal Attributes
Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be sociable and a good team player. Sub-wardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall and a willingness to engage with students and hall life in general.
It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process. The successful applicant must be available to attend Sub-Warden training sessions on 16 and 17th September 2024 and undertake first aid, mental health first aid and fire safety training when the courses are available.

Applicants should not submit a standard University application form. Please submit The Office of Voluntary Sub-wardenship application form together with an accompanying letter outlining suitability for the post. These are then to be sent directly to the Warden. Candidates must provide contact details for two written references (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section). There will be an opportunity to look round the hall during the week beginning 9th September 2024 and completed application forms are to be submitted to the Warden by email by 6pm 9 th September 2024, with a view to holding interviews 12th September 2024. Successful candidates should be ready to take their place in hall 16th September 2024.
