Job description

Voluntary Sub-warden Post – at Falkner-Eggington Hall

A vacancy has arisen for the role of Sub-warden at Falkner-Eggington Hall. Falkner Eggington Hall was voted the best hall in the UK (StudentCrowd data published by The Times Higher Education Guide).

Accommodation and Catering Arrangements

Free accommodation in the way of a self-contained flat is provided. The accommodation available is only suitable for one person. Sub-wardens are able to claim 10 meals a week in term time.

Sub-wardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall, linking closely with the student committee. This will involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as supporting student committee led events and social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a 4-person Sub-Warden team with formal duty to provide out-of-hours emergency cover largely during term time.

Personal Attributes

Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be a good team player. Subwardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall.

It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to fully understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process.

For further information about the role you are invited to contact the current Sub-warden team. Alizee is the team member leaving and the best person to contact to arrange to view the apartment and look around hall if time allows

The team members are as follows:

  • Chidinma Okorie
  • Bunmi Akintola
  • Roman Bielski
  • Alizee Cambier
  • Warden

  • Simon Wombwell
  • Applicants should not submit a standard University application form. Please submit The Office of Voluntary Sub-wardenship application form ((please click here for the application form) together with an accompanying letter outlining suitability for the post. Please state ‘Falkner Eggington Hall' on the application as more than one hall may be recruiting at the same time.

These are then to be sent directly to the Warden. Your PhD supervisor must be supportive of the application and references are required on successful appointment (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section).

Completed application forms are to be submitted to the Warden via email by the 30 th November. Interviews will be held on the evening of the 05th December.

The post will initially run until the 31st July 2023 with extension beyond this date then on a 12 monthly basis for suitable candidates.

Start date has some flexibility for the ideal candidate. The apartment will be available from early December and start date could be aligned to this. With sub-warden team agreement, the start date could be January to suit the candidate.
