An exciting opportunity exists for casual Study Tour Guides to join our dynamic team.

• From $46.32 (HEW 3) per hour (Including casual loading and 10.5% super) • Well-spoken, fluent English and clear communication • Additional language or TESOL qualification a bonus • City Tour Guide - Showing international students key city locations & attractions • Saturday work required and includes a lunch allowance


In January/February and July/August each year, Macquarie University College welcomes international study groups from schools and universities around the world to undertake English language or TESOL programs. Some groups have weekend city tours included in their programs which can include city walks, coastal walks, ferry rides, or museum and gallery visits. The key function of a Study Tour Guide is to lead international student groups on tours and point out key locations and attractions.

T his role is open to Internal Macquarie University Staff and Students only.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in meeting and escorting students as required.
  • Help to plan interesting itineraries for student tours.
  • Ensure itineraries are met and that students are informed in an engaging manner.
  • Display a positive image of Macquarie University, its initiatives, programs and brand.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Duties

    Study Tour Guides may be called upon to perform one or more of the following duties:

  • Meet Study Tour international students at a set location.
  • Show students around the city, pointing out key locations and attractions.
  • Share information and insights from living locally.
  • Have lunch with the student group and engage in English discussion.
  • Selection Criteria


  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  • Good knowledge of Sydney and/or the ability to read maps and follow instructions.
  • A good degree of initiative to respond to student needs.
  • Integrity and dedication to high standards of personal conduct especially when representing Macquarie University
  • A genuine interest in meeting new people and facilitating conversation.

  • Prior experience in a customer service role
  • TESOL qualification
  • Knowledge of additional language/s
