Position Summary

Job Summary

The Dining Services Assistant serves as an integral part of dining services. Student employees perform essential customer service tasks in campus dining areas; Evert Dining Room, Hawk's Nest, Ele's, Scholarly Grounds and Starbucks. All day shifts are offered through Starbucks and Scholarly Grounds, whereas Evert Dining Hall and Hawk's Nest offer lunch and dinner shift hours with an additional Hawk's Nest evening shift from 8pm-12am and shift differential pay. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepares and builds food items according to standardized recipes and directions
  • Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Sets up workstations including prep tables, service counters, hot wells, steam tables, etc.
  • Breaks down, cleans, and sanitizes work stations
  • Serves food to customers while ensuring guest satisfaction and anticipating the customers' needs
  • Replenishes food items and ensure product is stocked to appropriate levels
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
  • Adheres to Dining Services safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation

  • Ability to become familiar with health and cleanliness standards for food preparation and presentation
  • Ability to work efficiently and remain calm while working in high pressure situations
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to rapidly changing work conditions and address immediate and future event demands with very little notice or prompting
  • Ability to maintain stamina and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work quickly but efficiently
  • Ability to work well in a team structure; and good communication skills.

    Education

    First Year, Sophomore, Junior, Senior. All Majors.

    Experience

    No experience required; however, prior experience working in a customer- service driven environment is preferred.

    This position is paid $10.00 per hour, with an estimate of 20 hours weekly.
