The Student Support Specialist will act as a key academic advisor for new and continuing students in the Heller College of Business and assist HCB leadership with developing and achieving the College's student recruitment, retention, and engagement goals and objectives. This is a full-time, exempt, administrative position that reports to the assistant dean.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • An earned master's degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working with academic advising, recruitment, program planning or related area in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to make effective presentations in small and large group settings.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • A positive and professional demeanor is a must.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as an academic advisor of business students in a college or university.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner student database.
  • A business degree and/or professional experience in the business field

    Standard Office equipment (desktop computer, office copier and phone)

    Working Conditions

    Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.

    Essential Job Functions

    Duty and Responsibility

    Advising and retention: Assist students in preparing plans of study and with early and accurate course registration. Respond to student questions in a timely manner. Process and maintain accurate and timely student data and records in compliance with FERPA guidelines. Support probationary students in returning to good academic standing directly and through referral to available student services offered by the University. Collaborate with faculty and staff within and outside of the college to solve advising and certification issues.

    Percentage Of Time 70 Duty and Responsibility

    Recruitment and student events: Manage the college's presence and participation in University or college recruitment and student events. This will include attending recruitment and student events that may occasionally be held in the evening or on a weekend. Coordinate with HCB leadership to develop new program-specific recruitment pipelines with targeted high school and community college partners.

    Communicate enrollment needs and trends to HCB leadership to assist in preparation of academic schedules.
