  • About This Opportunity

    The Student Support Assistant contributes to the administration of policy and procedures in relation to student and academic matters within the BEL Faculty with emphasis on students who are academically at risk. They provide a high level of professional service to students and other stakeholders of the Faculty in relation to the duties listed as key responsibilities below.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Apply a sound general knowledge of student administration and develop and maintain specific knowledge of the policy and procedures relating to academic progression, enrolment and assessment.
  • Provide accurate and timely written, telephone and face to face advice and support to students and faculty stakeholders (e.g., other University departments).
  • Process requests in relation to academic progression processes, grade changes, examinations, assessment remarks and extension of studies across domestic and international, undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  • Assist and provide advice to the Coordinator Academic Support on matters relating to student and academic administration.
  • Identify academically at-risk students and refer to Student Administration Officers, postgraduate advisers and other University support services as appropriate.
  • Monitor students' compliance with conditions of re-enrolment set by the Associate Dean (Academic) and completing the activities on Back on Track.
  • Maintain accurate student records relating to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Liaise with other Faculties, Schools and Central Administration regarding matters of policy, and procedures relating to responsibilities of the role.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Faculty processes for academic progression.
  • Contribute to projects and other activities as determined by the Coordinator Academic Support.
  • Act as Secretary to Faculty Committees as required, including preparation of agendas and minutes and taking follow-up action.
  • Undertake other duties, consistent with the above, as may be required from time to time and as directed by the Coordinator Academic Support or Senior Manager Academic Services.

    About You

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant area or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience in a tertiary education institution or other large organisation, preferably in an area related to student/course/academic administration.
  • Knowledge and Skills:

  • A sound understanding of University policies and procedures, as well as key administrative processes relevant to student and academic administration or the ability to rapidly gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge of University student computer systems e.g., SI-net and Business Objects, or the ability to rapidly gain such knowledge.
  • Well-developed skills in the use of computer packages for word-processing, data storage and retrieval, customer relationship management, e-mail, spreadsheets, World Wide Web, and other administrative activities.
  • Personal Qualities:

  • High level written and oral communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • An empathy with and ability to communicate with students, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • What We Can Offer

    This is a full-time, fixed term position for 6 months to July 2023 at HEW Level 4.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $66,733.35 - $70,842.86 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $78,078.02 - $82,886.15 per annum.
