The mission of the Division of Student & Academic Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 12 functional units within the Division of Student & Academic Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Student Affairs Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Student Services Specialist to join our team. The Specialist will provide administrative and operational support to faculty, staff, and students on issues regarding admission, financial aid, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling and academic services. Additionally, they will resolve routine issues of limited scope within own work area using general guidelines and standards or precedents as reference.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an unders tanding of organizational policies and activities
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines in a high paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Communicate effectively through all modalities and professionally represent the department and UNTHSC
  • Preferred Qualifications

    The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: -Master's degree in Higher Education with training on student affairs related theory and practice or other related masters level training. -Three years' experience in related field -Experience working with registered student organizations and/or student governments

    Required License / Registration / Certification Work Schedule

    Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm, with some evenings or weekends as required for divisional events.

    Job Duties

    o

    Manage financial accounts for classes, governments and organizations including procurement card, reconciliations, purchasing requests, travel and reimbursements.

    o

    Develop, implement, and assess programs through multiple delivery methods to support the developmental needs of student leaders.

    o

    Advise and train Registered Student Organizations, Governments, and Advisors to ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures and regulatory compliance such as Campus Free Speech and Hazing education.

    o

    Other duties as assigned

    o

    Review, update and disseminate the annual Student Organization Handbook as part of the Organization Renewal process.

    o

    Design and lead community engagement/service learning activities for student leaders/RSOs in collaboration with campus partners. Including but not limited to Community Connect events at NSO, newsletter and lunch and learns.
