Job Summary: The Student Services Assistant will fall under the Executive Director of Student Services. The position will assist with all Student Service areas, includes helping with the dormitories when need be and the operational support for the overall Student Service areas. This is a part-time position that may work up to 28 hours per week.
Essential Functions: Act as a positive role model and work directly with all students in the development and enforcement of rules to assure proper student conduct & safety are adhered to. Assist in helping with the Resident Assistants & new Dorm Managers Help staff with annual dorm activity schedule and coordinate communication of events with Resident Assistants, Dorm Managers, and the Director of Housing. Provide the Housing Director with assistance in housing supervision. Conduct regular inspections for the appearance, operation, safety, and security of the dormitories, and reporting all issues to the Director of Housing. Maintain accurate housing reports and rosters. Assist in all Student Service areas. (transportation for our students to the dr./mental health facility/airport/shopping days for students that don't have transportation, dispensing over the counter medicine, help with student life events, help with overseeing the student pantry, along with dorm manager and office management duties). Act in a supportive role to the Student Life counselor, Student Life Director, Director of Housing, Executive Director of Student Services -with assisting in all day to day student service operations. Basic custodial duties, which may include working with cleaning chemicals. Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization. Comply with all College policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Comprehensive understanding of college housing/student services and its interrelationship with student satisfaction and student learning. High levels of confidentiality. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Must possess accurate record keeping skills. Must possess a positive attitude towards students and understand their social and personal development needs. Demonstrate an ability to supervise and positively motivate resident assistants. Must have the ability to react quickly in emergency situations. Must have the ability to remain calm in tense situations and effectively deal with confrontational situations. Ability to work independently, as well as on a team. Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Good communications skills, both written and spoken. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures. Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations. Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement.
Required Education Background: Associate's Degree (or equivalent in credit hours).
Required Experience: Experience in the development and enforcement of student conduct. Experience working with student populations. Experience in event planning and promotion.
Physical Requirements: Ability to traverse stairs; Ability to maintain physical mobility and composure and to assist with physical student activity; Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work Environment: Work performed throughout dorm building, office location, campus, outdoor and indoor activities.
