Description
Our student tutors assist students in learning, test preparation and
additional academic mentoring based on subject. Tutoring sessions are done
1-on-1 both on-campus and virtually. Tutoring takes place by appointment or by
drop-in during certain hours. Responsibilities of the student tutor can/will
include:
Attend interactive training to develop leadership skills in academic
support
Assist students with time management, study skills, understanding subject
content, and preparing for exams
Utilize best practices and apply learned material in hosting tutor
appointments in person and online
Partner with faculty to provide supplemental assistance for course
material
Create marketing materials and promote opportunities for academic
assistance in the LRC
Develop subject-specific study resources to share with students
Host group study sessions in preparation for upcoming exams (as
requested)
Provide technology support and troubleshooting to aid students in their
academic success
Brainstorm and help to facilitate additional academic programming in the
LRC
Participate in tutor assessment and administer tutee assessments
Requirements
Tutors must have a proven ability in their tutoring subject (Earned B or
better in subject and/or have faculty recommendation). Tutors must also have
a genuine concern for helping others, effective oral and written communication
skills, excellent time management, and exude a professional and non-judgmental
attitude in working with a diverse group of students. Basic knowledge of
technology is also recommended.
