Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Student Counselor. Reporting to the Assistant Dean/Director for the MBA Program Office, Rutgers Business School, this position serves to interpret and apply RBS-MBA and university policies and regulations as well as being a resource to provide information and guidance to MBA students, staff, faculty, and RBS administrators regarding university systems, policies and procedures.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.

  • Serve as a professional-level student advisor who provides services to RBS MBA students, staff, and faculty
  • Communicates daily with students, faculty and staff to answer questions regarding RBS MBA rules and procedures, including degree plans and registration requests
  • Explains rules and procedures
  • Interprets the philosophy behind them in order to give the best and most accurate information
  • Serves as a student liaison with other university offices as necessary
  • Works directly with the students and faculty to analyze exceptions to the curriculum and works with the faculty to determine if there is a sound academic basis for an exception, consults with students and recommends courses of action; monitors academic progress and scholastic standing, participates on appropriate committees
  • Maintains accurate records and student data for use in various departmental reports
  • Plans and facilitates academic workshops
  • Assists with the onboarding such as planning and implementation of RBS MBA New Student Orientation
  • Conducts graduation certifications and actively participates in commencement activities
  • Assists with activities involved in rankings
  • Assist with enhancing the student life experience
  • Identifies and implements innovative initiatives in the Student Services domain.
  • Requires late, evening, and occasional weekend work
  • Travel between campuses is required

    Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

    The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date.     Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in higher education counseling, student personnel, or a related area and at least 2 years of related experience in higher education.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to effectively collaborate and communicate with students, faculty and senior level administrators
  • Requires initative, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and effective project management skills
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Possess strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a contributing team member
  • Must have a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets (Excel), and database programs Proficiency in RU-N4Success advising platform required
  • Must have the ability to relate and interact with professional students
  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible (including periodically working late hours and weekends).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related area preferred; 3-5 years related experience in higher education. Ability to learn and adjust to new systems. Experience with advising platforms, SRDB, Canvas, etc. Working with professors and administration in a university setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Rutgers Payroll, Purchasing and Scheduling systems, or various computer programs (Office Platform, and RUTADMIN) a plus, as well as knowledge of the university audit systems and sources of assistance
  • Driver's license preferred for necessary travel to the New Brunswick campus.
  • Equipment Utilized

  • RU-N4Success, MS Office suite, and other software appropriately
  • Knowledge of the university audit programs, a large number of documents (PDF and DOC) utilized both by us and the university
  • Surrvey software available online such as Survey Monkey or Qualtrics
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work late hours and weekends periodically

    Immunization Requirements
