Job description

The School of Medicine wishes to appoint a Student Coach to provide ongoing, individual and group support to undergraduate students to enable them to identify and achieve their educational goals. Your focus will be to ensure that students feel supported to succeed and thrive during their time at UCLan in preparation for a successful career beyond their studies.

Working within a committed and enthusiastic team you will guide students on their personal and academic development including study skills, self-critical awareness and reflection, motivation, and self-confidence. A major focus of this role will be in supporting and preparing students in their applications to further study including Medicine, Physician Associate, Pharmacy, etc. You will take a holistic view of each student, reflecting on their progression and assisting them in formulating and reviewing plans for development of personal, academic and career aspirations.

You will demonstrate a drive and passion for student development and will work effectively within a team of academic staff with a genuine and compelling focus on student-centred education. Through engagement with staff and students you will develop a keen and current sense of the issues that impact upon student development in positive and negative ways. As a motivated, reliable and capable team member you will develop networks of contacts and influence that you will use in the best interest of students.

You will hold a good honours degree or equivalent experience and coaching qualification or a willingness to achieve. You will be trained in the application of current legislation and policy in areas such as GDPR, Prevent, Mental Health awareness, Equality and Diversity, or willing to undertake training on taking up the post.

Experience of pastoral/wellbeing support of students is essential alongside working in an educational environment with experience of working on University applications, personal statements and careers ad vice for students.

You must possess excellent communication skills; be able to plan and prioritise your workload as well as working under pressure to strict deadlines and be a proactive professional who is passionate about assisting students as they progress through their academic journey.
