Job Title Student Assistant-String Project (Music Preparatory Division)General Description
This is a student position responsible for teaching private and group lessons to children enrolled in the Music Preparatory Division Strings Project program, providing support for all Music Prep areas, recruiting for and maintaining studio, and participating in Music Prep activities such as teacher meetings, fundraisers, registration, and recruiting assignments. Responsible for evaluating progress of students, preparing students for recitals, and encouraging students to participate in festivals, theory tests, and performance opportunities. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
1. Prepares weekly lesson plans. 2. Recruits new students. 3. Conducts individual assessments of student progress. 4. Communicates effectively with parents, students, and colleagues. 5. Prepares students for recitals. 6. Encourages students in their music studies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. 2. Ability to teach the instrument being taught. 3. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, university faculty and staff, and the general public. 4. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
Teach string instruments to registered Music Prep students and String Project students. Recruiting of students is important. Student teaches for 12-14 weeks each semester. Prepare students for recital at the end of the fall and spring semester.
Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
