Job Title Student Assistant - Social Media Coordinator

General Description

This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.

Job Duties

  • Works with the Program Specialists in implementing advertising campaigns.
  • Posts events and deadlines across various social media accounts.
  • Takes photos at events and gets signed consent to use the photos.
  • Creates engaging tweets, posts, stories, and reels.
  • Participates in social media takeovers with University Marketing Center (UMC).
  • Digitally stores photos and UMC-created graphics.
  • Works with UMC to create graphics for events and promotional items.
  • Answers questions about benefits.
  • Answers phones and emails as needed.
  • Assists in preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Knowledge of various social media outlets to include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including spreadsheet, word processing and publishing software.
  • Ability to take photographs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to collect information and consent forms.
  • Ability to respect consent when it comes to photos and personal information.
  • Ability to collaborate with other campus organizations on publicizing events.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to deliver positive customer service experiences.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team.
  • Required Qualifications

    The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

    No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred majors are Art, Mass Communication, Marketing, or Publishing.
  • Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) guidelines and how to create accessible content, specifically how to use features within social media platforms to make content accessible.
  • Skill in Microsoft Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Some knowledge of graphic design.
  • Physical Demands

  • May need to carry camera or tech equipment.
  • May be required to walk to various locations on campus.
  • Special Conditions for Eligibility

    A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

    Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
