Qualifications/Experience:

Applicants should be graduate students or third-fourth year undergraduate students. The successful candidate must have a background in contemporary visual art and experience in art handling in a gallery or museum setting. Applicants who lack either a background in the visual arts or museum studies will not be considered for the position. Applicants should be familiar with the production and distribution of online promotional material (PSA, press releases, email list-serves). Experience with website updating and maintenance an asset. Work experience in a recognized art gallery or museum is preferred. Experience hanging and handling art is necessary.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal and creative problem- solving skills and work well under pressure. The candidate should be flexible regarding work hours.

Duties:

Preparation – Mounting and removal of art installations in the Sutherland Gallery/ Umphrey Building space, General art studio assistance and Maintenance Online promotion of gallery vents via social media, email advertising, website updates, email press release distribution Office and research – researching university art gallery funding models, outreach to high schools to develop programming and engage the public, photocopying and other office related duties and other relevant duties as assigned.
