Occupational Summary

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Student Services Staff Specialist will perform a variety of duties to support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and Student Affairs initiatives within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. These responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, scheduling meetings, tracking outcomes, and communicating with students, academic advisors and internal/external university partners/stakeholders.

Work Performed

Work directly with, and report to, the DEI/SA Program Coordinator, the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DDEI) and the Director of Student Affairs (DSA) for the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Manage evaluation tools that enhance communication between students, faculty, and staff.

Maintain computer databases for tracking of student outcomes, support needs, key contacts, procedures and processes.

Compile information and prepare reports in support of program activities.

Manage centralization of DEI and Student Services resources including calendars, Canvas shells, and Box folders.

Liaise with appropriate personnel, University Departments, and outside sources to address inquiries related to program activities.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Maintain data collected from assessment and evaluation tools relative to planned student support and cross-cultural interventions.

Maintain communications (emails, calls, virtual) between students and the DDEI.

Manage scheduling and logistics of summer recruitment programs, DEI programming, and on-going educational opportunities.

Compile operational documents and procedures for DEI-focused initiatives including summer programs and educational programs for students, faculty, staff, and other DPT stakeholders.

Student Services

Manage system for student absence request approvals, oversee daily operations based upon established criteria.

Maintain communications (emails, calls, virtual) between students and the DSA.

Schedule student programming logistics and assist with implementation of programming, including occasional after-hours and weekend events.

Manage room bookings and student meeting scheduling for accommodations process.

Compile and store operational documents and procedures for student services including DPT student clubs, accommodations, and absences.

Assist with Orientation logistics including scheduling, planning, and Welcome Week programming.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.

Experience

Work generally requires four years of clerical or research experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE toacquire strong skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office management, communications and research practices. A bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and two years of the experience requirement.
