The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Staff Research Associate 2
for the Chemistry Department. The position will be responsible for coverage of
stockrooms during multiple laboratory sections with emphasis on student
safety; preparation of laboratory experiments for various laboratory courses;
maintaining and securing laboratory areas; stock management, instructional
assistance; student employees training and supervision; laboratory safety and
hazardous waste management; and other duties as assigned. The selected
candidate will follow all relevant policies for laboratory work and for safety
at the department, university, state and national levels. This position will
report to the Director of Laboratories.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required
area of specialization and one year of professional research experience either
in the field or in a laboratory; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research
Associate I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education
and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting
public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a
pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requires knowledge and experience working with chemicals,
including waste management, inventory, preparation, and storage. This position
requires knowledge and experience with chemistry lab safety procedures and
chemical hygiene policies.

Hygiene Plan are encouraged to apply.
The typical work schedule is 40 hours, variable weekdays to cover
instructional stockrooms with some late evenings. Some days may be 10-hour
shifts but not to exceed 40 hours per week. During the times when labs are not
in session the schedule is flexible; this is subject to change based on

The Department of Chemistry offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry,
as well as an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Chemical Physics. The department has
