Southampton Children's Hospital John Atwell Day Ward (JADW) is looking for a dynamic and adaptable band 5 staff nurse who will be responsible for admitting and preparing patients for both medical and surgical day care. Providing care throughout their stay and undertaking nurse led discharge for your patients. There will be the opportunity to develop extended roles ie cannulation and venesection alongside supporting the allergy team with food and drug challenges.

JADW is currently open Monday to Saturday from 07.15 to 20.00. JADW is a busy nurse led day ward that treats over 5000 children a year undergoing medical and surgical day case procedures. Working in close liaison with the medical and surgical teams across a range of specialities which include gastroenterology, endocrinology, allergy, nephrology and rheumatology. The unit cares for children from age 3 months to 18 years striving to deliver high quality day care to children and their families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities

You will be working in a team that consists of both qualified and unqualified staff at Southampton Children's Hospital, based at the Southampton General site.

What you'll do

Provide a high standard of specialised care to all our patients

Communicate effectively with our patients and carers, ensuring barriers are reviewed and solutions are implemented and shared across the multidisciplinary teams

Ensure accurate records of observations, treatment and family/patient care is recorded in adherence to NMC and Trust standards.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a staff nurse who is motivated and committed to delivering high standards of care and a team player with excellent communication skills to join our John Atwell Children's Day Ward. We will provide a supportive and comprehensive induction programme when you start to meet the varied needs of the children and their families.
