Job Description:

Description of Duties: The Sr. Research Scientist will have primary responsibility for conceptualizing, designing, conducting and managing both large and small-scale studies to support a research agenda developed to increase knowledge of specific traffic safety issues, guide programmatic and policy decisions of the sponsor and assess the effectiveness of strategies for reducing motor vehicle crashes, fatalities and injuries on the state's highways. Responsibilities include all aspects of project management, including project planning and research design, identification of data sources, analysis and interpretation of data, report writing and coordination of the project team. This position is also responsible for preparing New York's annual Highway Safety Strategic Plan and Annual Report in accordance with federal requirements. This position also serves as liaison with local, state and national agencies and organizations in the field of traffic safety.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Position requires a minimum of a Master's Degree in Public Administration, Public Health or related field. Requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in conducting social science research, including at least 3 years of experience in managing and directing research and evaluation projects. Requires strong statistical, technical and quantitative skills, proficiency in multiple data collection and analysis techniques, exceptional knowledge of statistical computer applications and experience working with large data sets. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and experience in communicating findings and presenting data effectively in multiple formats. Experience working in a collaborative team environment. Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks when necessary. Must demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with traffic safety or related public health issues. Strong social science methods background and demonstrated experience in designing, conducting and managing research studies required. Experience with SAS statistical software preferred. Experience leading collaborative work-groups and teams comprised of public and private sector partners a plus.

Additional Information:

Salary Range : $95,000 - $110,000
