Position Summary:
The School of Physical Sciences Contract and Grant Financial Management Team supports post-award analytical, financial, administration, and training activities for contract and grant funding, and budget development for SoPS faculty and their various research and instructional programs and initiatives. We manage funding (post-award) and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. We analyze research funding trends and sources, forecast, plan, and manage research portfolios and our daily activities involve reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance and program success; negotiating, administering, and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms, and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award/subcontract issuance and administration.
Under the direction of the School of Physical Sciences (SoPS) Assistant Contracts and Grants Manager, the Sr. Contracts & Grants Analyst is responsible for the financial and administrative management of complex federal and private contracts and grants (approx. $5-$10 million) as well as other extramural funds that support various research and instructional programs within SoPS. As part of the School's collaborative financial management team, incumbent has independent decision making authority, with policy analysis and interpretation, and independent problem solving responsibilities that require on-going interaction with all levels of university and agency faculty and staff. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently develop and oversee research awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Works on awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. Works on complex awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards. Guides less experienced staff. Works on complex post-award administration on grants and contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards.

$66,700.00 - $85,000.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary)
Required:
Minimum three years of experience at UCI, with working knowledge of UCI administrative and financial online systems and/or four years of higher education experience managing multi-million dollar research awards.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. Ability to manage significant volume of transactions. Ability to perform complex financial analysis, planning, audit planning and preparation, rate analysis, cost/benefit analysis, research program fund administration, and customized reporting. Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization, prioritization, and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas amongst heavy workload and often competing deadlines. Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines. Ability to independently develop innovative, logical solutions to difficult, unusual or first-time problems, and generate appropriate recommendations in response.
Preferred:
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques. Experience working as part of a professional team, maintaining confidentiality, using discretion, and establishing and maintaining working relationships with staff, faculty, researchers, and students of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
