Position Title Sr. Accountant

Position Summary
The Sr. Accountant in the Office of the Comptroller is responsible for
ensuring the University of the Incarnate Word and related entities are in
compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements, as well as
providing annual audit support. Specifically, this position analyzes and
reconciles various accounts, in addition to serving as a resource/liaison to
academic and administrative departments and external parties. Position reports
to Financial Operations Manager.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal
regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual
Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the
employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive
information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are
set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Description of Job Duties
Review endowment agreements to initiate administration;
Work closely with the Financial Aid Office and Advancement Office on
funding distributions and establishing budgets based on endowment
agreements;
Maintain endowment files, reports and other supporting documentation as
deemed necessary;
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliation and
reports based on cash and investment activities.

Assist in the preparation/submission of the university tax returns,
including but not limited to Forms 990 and 990-T;
Ensure compliance with collection and remittance of sales tax and hotel
occupancy tax to both state and local governments;
Collaborate with relevant institutional departments to ensure compliance
with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations;
Conduct research on legislative changes that may impact the university;
Respond to inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.

Description of Job Duties
Assist in the preparation of the annual audit(s);
Reconcile development records to the University financial statements;
Respond to audit inquiries accurately and in a timely manner;
Coordinate annual Emeriti audit;
Prepare investment audit work-papers, tax questionnaires/memos,
confirmation letters and footnotes.
Prepare long term debt audit work-papers, confirmation letters and
footnotes.

Description of Job Duties
Abide by University financial policies and procedures, donor requirements
and agency regulations;
Assist in the creation of new policies and procedures established by the
University in accordance with regulations;
Communicate and disseminate best practices to University personnel;
Generate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports;
Perform cost analysis and create statistical reports and data.

Prepare monthly reconciliations and journal entries as needed;
Assist with the preparation of financial statement for international
campuses;
Provide guidance and mentoring to Accountant and student employees;
Assist with the preparation of debt related disclosures/annual budget;

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications: databases,
spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Exceptional attention to detail with ability to multitask, prioritize, and
meet concurrent deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and
cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the
University, the Conference, and NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance from an
accredited college or university.
Required Work Experience
Three (3) years of general accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of non-profit/governmental accounting, budgeting, and/or tax
reporting.
Master's Degree in Accounting or Tax.
CPA.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial audit and reporting requirements.
Prior endowment experience.
UIW accounting experience.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Work Hours
Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm, with occasional weekends and/or after hours as
required based on departmental needs.
