Sport Development Intern

£12.00 per hour

Part time, 10 hours per week

Fixed term for a period of 9 months

Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

Student and Academic Services is based in the Bernard King Library and is made up of five teams: the Career Development Centre; the Counselling and Mental Health Service; the Learner Development Service, Abertay Sport and the Advisory Service. Student Services aims to integrate the services offered and to develop a culture of continuous improvement using an evidenced-based practice model. Additionally, Student and Academic Services also aim to provide both high quality, professional, non-judgmental and impartial counselling, advice and assistance; and up-to-date and unbiased information on a broad range of issues for former, current and prospective students.

Abertay Sport is part of the Student and Academic Services Directorate located in the Graham Building. We feel that sport and physical activity can play an important role in the education and development of students and that sport and physical activity should play a critical role in the student experience at Abertay. As a result, Abertay University has a wide range of opportunities to study and take part in sport and physical activity. Abertay Sport offers competitive and recreational opportunities for all members of the Abertay community to take part in sport and physical activity.

The University now seeks to appoint a Sport Development Intern.

Reporting to the Sport Development Officer, you will act as a student representative within the sports union and governing bodies such as Scottish Student Sport (SSS) and British University and College Sport (BUCS) and will support the development of the competitive and recreational sport and physical activity on campus by reviewing the current provision and identifying ways of driving further engagement amongst students and staff.

The successful candidate will be able to evidence some experience of sport and physical activity development together with an ability to problem solve and analyse information. The successful candidate should be a current student at Abertay University and ideally an active member of the Sports Union. We welcome applications from candidates who can evidence a passion for sport and physical activity alongside a creative and positive outlook (List what the role will contribute to and what skills will be demanded of this contribution)

The role requires individuals to demonstrate effective communication, the ability to deliver a high-quality service and student experience, teamwork and motivation, initiative and problem solving, liaison and networking, planning and organising.
