The Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland invites candidates to apply for a position as Specialty intern in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

We are looking for reinforcement for our internal medicine team as of Mai 1st 2023. The prerequisites are a completed rotating internship or equivalent clinical training, experience in emergency services, as well as a good knowledge of German and French. The specialty internship programme is designed to prepare the candidate for a residency in internal medicine. Approximately 25% of the working time involves work in the emergency service.

Our team consists of five ACVIM and/or ECVIM-CA diplomates in internal medicine, one ECVIM-CA board certified cardiologist, 3 residents, 2 speciality Interns, rotating interns and a dedicated nursing team. Friendly interactions and flat hierarchies create a positive working environment.

We are committed to providing the best possible multidisciplinary care for our patients, provide training to the next generation of veterinarians and to advance veterinary medicine.

The Small Animal Clinic Bern has specialists in surgery, neurology, dermatology, radiology, emergency medicine and intensive care medicine as well as clinical pathology. High-quality equipment and services including ultrasound, endoscopy, MRI, CT and an in-house clinical pathology laboratory are available. There is also an intensive care unit, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As part of the internal medicine team, you will see clinical internal medicine cases, take part in the clinical training of students and participate in journal clubs, case discussions and other continuing education. You will work under the supervision of a boarded diplomate in internal medicine and be supported by experienced colleagues providing back-up during emergency services.

The Small Animal Clinic Bern is located in the centre of Bern. Bern is in close proximity to the mountains as well as several beautiful lakes, and the region offers easy access to numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing and cycling.
