Position Title Specialty Chef (Bemidji, MN)

Korean: April 10-28, 2023

Chinese: April 10-May 18, 2023

Russian: April 16-29, 2023, June 11 – 24, 2023 and June 25 -July 8, 2023

The Specialty Chef begins pre-program planning (15 – 25 hours total) three to four weeks before the program start date/s listed below. The Specialty Chef arrives on site in Bemidji, MN three days before the program start date/s to prepare meals during staff orientation.

Minimum Salary $1000 per program week + room and board Job Summary/Basic Function

Primary responsibilities include being a member of a highly effective team which researches and creates recipes and menus that produce culturally authentic and culturally immersive food, sometimes leading a team, and continuing on a path of continuous professional growth.

  • Menu/Recipe Development and Curriculum Support
  • Providing Team Support through Food Production
  • Mentor others on the culinary arts team to learn cooking the ethnic cuisine and related techniques
  • Maintain regular and consistent communication with the instructional team throughout the employment period to ensure smooth implementation of meals and interface with academic program elements.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Required: Food Industry certifications; quantity cooking experience; 3-5 years' experience preparing ethnic cuisine authentic to communities where the target language is spoken; must be able to read and write; strong communication skills; be able to work a varied schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends as necessary.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred:, Menu planning and ordering experience, Bachelor Degree (4 year degree), Culinary Degree, ability to lead food -related activities in the target language.
