OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Serve as the subject matter expert for advice and consultation of computer accessories, cables, connectors, adapters, peripherals and software products; stay current with needs of the student and departmental IT communities regarding these items to determine both essential and optional accessories to be stocked in the Duke Technology Center (DTC); research end user requests for special merchandise or products with specific functionality to optimize value to customer.

Responsibilities

Interface daily via phone, email, instant messaging or in person with IT staff in departments regarding the computer accessories product set listed above, special configurations or other technology-related products; serve as the subject matter expert for consultation on these products.

Develop special configurations for computer accessories product set to meet specific or unique IT requirements for end users as needed; gain understanding of end user's functional requirements and make recommendations as to specific product(s) to best meet stated needs; work with vendors to secure best pricing for resulting special orders.

Ensure marketability of the computer accessories offered through the Computer Program and those stocked in the DTC by researching technology product development and staying up to date with current market trends; alert management as necessary to avoid carrying dead inventory.

Serve as a back-up to Analyst IT to develop special configurations for laptop or desktop computers designed to meet specific or unique IT requirements for end users.

Work the sales floor in the DTC on a regular basis in order to stay in touch with retail customers and assess first-hand the viability of new products offered, as well as to hear directly requests for technology accessories currently not carried in the store.

Assist in the selection of student computer accessories and peripherals including in back-to-school offerings as well as other promotional periods of time; help ensure accurate product descriptions and functionality are included in all marketing materials, including web promotions.

Enter all in-stock transfer orders into our point-of-sale system for processing by our Distribution Center.

Assist daily in the Distribution Center by pulling in-stock products and staging these items for processing by Computer Program order staff.

Assist the Senior Computer Program IT Analyst ove rseeing the buying aspect of the operation to help fulfill duties assigned to the IT Specialist such as, but not limited to, procurement o fspecial-order accessory items and providing quotes as nee ded to our customers, seeking advice before procuring products, and prov iding quotes to make sure they meet and/or exceed expectati ons of the Computer Program pricing structure.

Assist the Senior Computer Program IT Analyst overseeing the buying aspect of the operation to help fulfill duties assigned to the IT Specialist such as, but not limited to, procurement of special-order accessory items and providing quotes as needed to our customers, seeking advice before procuring products, and providing quotes to make sure they meet and/or exceed expectations of the Computer Program pricing structure.

Report depleted inventory levels in the Distribution Center to the IT Analyst for review and reordering as needed.

Work closely with personnel in the Duke Technology Center to maintain consistent inventory levels of current products in the store front operation.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training:

High school degree required. 2-year college degree in technical field preferred Experience: 3-5 years of experience working with computers, computer accessories, information technology, technology systems, applications, hardware or software, preferably in a retail setting. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
