Job Description

The Sourcing Specialist Auxiliaries, Site Services, and Travel is a key member of the Sourcing and Procurement and Procure to Pay teams at Boston University. Under the general management of the Senior Category Manager for Auxiliaries & Site Services, the Sourcing Specialist is primarily responsible for the execution of an annual category plan for assigned indirect spend commodities, including auxiliaries, site services. The position is also responsible for overseeing Boston University's multi-million-dollar travel program and managing the performance of the University's outsourced third-party travel management company (TMC). Additionally, the sourcing specialist will also recommend opportunities for improvement and savings across all assigned spend categories.

Major duties of this position include:

  • Project management responsibility include ownership of a subset of initiatives on the Senior Category Manager's strategic plan. The Sourcing Specialist is expected to deliver measurable, quantifiable cost and/or process efficiencies using BU's established Sourcing Methodology, which includes the following stages:

  • Project Confirmation, Analysis, and Planning,
  • Strategy Development, Competitive Event, and Selection, and
  • Implementation and Monitoring.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, manage, and execute on category plan initiatives to deliver best total value to the University, including managing competitive bid events and negotiating business and legal terms.

  • Building and managing internal business relationships by providing guidance and expertise on sourcing best practices, including supplier selection, industry insights, negotiation strategies, and contracting.
  • Work closely on communication and change management efforts associated with executed projects, in addition to developing and managing a supplier performance program within the assigned auxiliaries and site services spend categories.
  • Execute category initiatives within BU's travel program including TMC, airline, rail, hotel, rental car, ground transportation, and where appropriate, events and conferences.
  • Develop an understanding of spend by sub-category, supplier, unit, and geography; develop demand management plans to ensure spending trends are identified and savings opportunities formulated; Monitor travel activity, formulate recommendations for improvements in travel experience and/or savings.
  • Engage with BU stakeholders and drive adoption of the BU travel program.
  • Required Skills

  • B.A./B.S. in business, finance, accounting, management, nonprofit administration, or public administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in:
  • Public speaking, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage concurrent projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead with vision and motivate others.
  • Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
  • Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial team environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in a Sourcing & Procurement function with exposure to a relevant eProcurement system, such as SAP Ariba.
