Position Summary Information

General Information

The Center for Global Engagement is looking for a social media intern for the Global Learning and Partnerships (GLP) team. This position is for the Spring 2023 semester and may be renewed for the Fall 2023 semester. This internship is a paid student position that requires 10 hours each week. Office hours will be set according to student's availability. Intern will get the chance to build out their professional portfolio.

Please submit a resume, cover letter, and 2-3 samples of portfolio work from various social media. In your cover letter, please suggest a social strategy or tool that the GLP team should employ to promote global learning opportunities and events to students and faculty at JMU. Duties and Responsibilities

Draft social media posts promoting GLP events and opportunities for CGE social media

Suggest strategies for posting content according to intended audience (students, faculty, community, global partner universities)

Create branded graphics that raise awareness of events or organizational mission suitable for digital and print ads

Draft interview questions for collecting and compiling interview responses for future blog posts

Create storyboards for Instagram stories that give the takeover context and give audience direction

Generate GIFs from videos + develop animated vertical slides

Participate in editorial calendars and scheduling of posts

Design process documents such as social media toolkits for recurring GLP programs

Create and advise the creation of Instagram Stories and Reels

Qualifications

Must be a JMU undergraduate student

Enrolled in a major related to graphic design and/or communications, or demonstrated equivalent experience

Must be well-versed in Adobe InDesign and Canva, among other editing software

Must be well-versed in major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
