The Temporary Full-Time Clinical Research Assistant will work 30-40 hours though scheduled work hours and days may vary weekly. The majority of the time will be spent at the Thurston Arthritis Research Center (TARC) with additional visits to UNC clinics as needed.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology has an immediate job opening for a Temporary Full-Time Clinical Research Assistant. This position will entail data entry, sample processing, patient screening and consenting, and other clinical research study tasks that may arise during the course of a study. Key aspects of the position will include data entry, human specimen handling, community outreach and communication with other study personnel Study Assistance: Responsibilities consist of entering data, sample processing, patient screening and consenting for clinical research studies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Clinical Trials Coordinator, Research Assistants and other members of the clinical trials team at the Thurston Arthritis Research Center. Administrative: Under the supervision of the Principle Investigator, the research assistant will collaborate with and provide assistance to the TARC staff on other assigned tasks. Mandatory Safety Compliance: Must complete CITI on-line training, UNC Environmental and Safety on-line training, perform Universal Precautions, TB testing, have hepatitis B vaccination with proof of immunity, and have annual flu vaccinations. There will also be additional study specific training. Other Position Characteristics: Accuracy Required in Work: This position requires significant efficiency, organization and attention to detail. All data entry must be completed in a timely matter and checked for accuracy before submission. A high degree of visual attention and mental concentration is necessary to identify and maintain numerical and written data in the clinical workstation and in the medical records, to identify patients for participation in research studies, and to safely process and store human specimens. In all aspects of the research, confidentiality must be respected. Further responsibilities to ensure the confidentiality of patient data and protect the privacy of all study subjects include refraining from discussing subjects, maintaining encoded subject identification, and locked study files. Ability to function independently: The research assistant is expected to work independently and report to the supervisor/s. The successful candidate must be able to communicate necessary data in both written and oral forms. Team player and strong interpersonal skills: Must be a team player and have strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. The position requires the ability to work with several colleagues in the same office without inadvertently disrupting others' work. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong technical writing skills, along with proficiency in computer usage. Experience in data entry is strongly desired with RedCap database experience preferred but not required. Must have personal transportation to travel between clinics and UNC campus.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
