The Simulation Specialist will impact the future of medicine and healthcare

and educationally sound simulation encounters. For over 120 years, we have

Functions include collaborating with the various courses to create rigorous,
relevant, realistic and educationally sound simulation encounters. This
includes high-fidelity, medium-fidelity, task training, and SP encounters
dependent on program learning objectives. Additionally, the Simulation
Specialist will provide pre-briefing and debriefings for sessions when
appropriate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, design, write, create and prepare, simulation scenarios using
appropriate simulation methodology based on the goals and objectives of
the program and course.
Deliver high-fidelity simulation encounters as the voice of the patient,
ensuring the encounter follows the approved and scripted format. This
includes the operation of all aspects of the lab during high-fidelity
simulation encounters.
Facilitate in pre-briefing and post-encounter debriefing sessions by
providing structured feedback to learners. Encourage Students to think
critically and develop sound patient care skills.
Create realistic moulage to enhance the realism and educational benefit of
simulation encounters.
Assist in the continued integration of medical simulation methodologies
into DMU's curriculum, including education training, skill development and
assessment.
Participates in community outreach programs, directs tours of the lab and
participates in speaking engagements to promote the simulation lab, if
needed.
Assesses and initiates new uses of simulation methodology by participating
in continuing education at the state, regional and national levels in the
use of simulation.
Maintain current clinical license to practice in Iowa.
Maintain security of confidential information and documents per
departmental and University practices.
Attend and participate in meetings and training activities associated with
the department.
Represent DMU in relevant projects and University matters.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Participate in and successfully complete all University required training
including, but not limited to, discrimination/harassment and code of
conduct.
Education and experience:
Associates degree required. Bachelor's or Master's preferred .
Three years of work-related experience (i.e., healthcare clinical
setting, healthcare education, or Medical Simulation field) required.
Paramedic/EMT, R.N. or equivalent medical knowledge/experience preferred.
Experience in course development and education methodology preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and/or understanding of basic medical terms,
procedures, or other health related field highly desirable; i.e., anatomy,
physiology and/or biochemistry preferred.
Professional certifications and/or licenses including but not limited to
TeamSTEPPS instructor, Certified BLS-Healthcare Provider, ACLS, PALS,
TNCC, CHSE, CHSOS a plus.
Simulation Specialists currently in the role as of February 28, 2020, will
be grandfathered.

Strong PC computer skills to include knowledge of computers and relevant
software required, with emphasis on successful use of Word, Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint, etc; able to work with evolving departmental
technology as required, to include basic AV equipment. Ability to
accurately troubleshoot a computer during an event.
Develop training and assessment materials.
Able to present in front of small or large groups.
Fluency in Spanish a plus; other languages are welcome.
