Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is recruiting a Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon to join our academic department. This new faculty member will have teaching, research, and service responsibilities and will be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on either the clinical or tenure track. The department will provide the resources necessary to further develop research interests. Education of residents, fellows and students is expected as part of this appointment. This faculty member will have an outstanding opportunity to build a practice in Shoulder and Elbow reconstructive surgery. The outpatient practice will include some outreach clinics in communities near Iowa City.

The position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

Education Requirement:

  • The candidate must be a graduate of an approved medical college.

  • The candidate must have graduated from a fully accredited orthopedic residency.

  • The candidate must have completed a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be eligible for Iowa medical licensure.

  • The candidate will demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The candidate has experience promoting a diverse workforce in an academic environment.

  • The candidate has clinical expertise in shoulder and elbow surgery.

  • Certifications:

  • The candidate must be certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, or Board-eligible orthopedic surgeon.
  • Desirable Qualifications:

  • A surgeon who has completed a ASES accredited fellowhip in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery will be viewed most favorably.

  • The candidate has a particular interest in elbow reconstruction.

  • Demonstrated accomplishments in research evidenced by publications, grants, or other scholarly work is also desired.
