  • Subjects Language Education and Applied Linguistics Description The Graduate School Language & Literature – Class of Language Education at LMU Munich offers several doctoral places. The Graduate School's Class of Language Education is a structured PhD programme in linguistics.

    Apart from the non-funded PhD positions, the Class of Language Education also offers a DAAD-GSSP-Scholarship for International doctoral candidates. It has a duration of a maximum of four years. Applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months prior to the nomination.

    The doctoral program of the Class of Language Education at the Graduate School Language and Literature Munich offers a research-oriented and integrated curriculum open to doctoral candidates in all language education majors of the Faculty of Languages and Literatures at the LMU. Professors from German and English language education, as well as romance and classical languages, present a wide spectrum of theoretical positions, research methodology approaches, and practical applications.

    The interdisciplinarity of the courses offered focuses on the processes and results of teaching and learning language, literature, and culture in first, second, and foreign languages, both in school and outside school contexts. Dissertation projects can deal with historical, theoretical, or empirical questions in language, literature, or media didactics, as well as classroom research.

    Furthermore, doctoral candidates in the Class of Language Education will receive intensive individual supervision of their dissertation projects from a team of supervisors, an interesting workshop and presentation program with guest researchers, chances to gain key qualifications, multiple opportunities for theoretical exchange, as well as financial support for research and conference travel.
