The Department of Indigenous Studies is an interdisciplinary department within
the Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University. Our Department's core business is
teaching and research that is by and of interest to Indigenous peoples, and
towards prosperous and connected futures. We prioritise projects that are
transformative in nature – projects that provide direct benefit to the lives
of Indigenous peoples and reflect the needs of communities. We are an all-
Indigenous workforce who specialise in their respective disciplines and who
are trained in Indigenous research practice.
Indigenous Studies will expand understandings of society by focusing on the
diverse experiences, stories and ideas at local, national and international
levels: from the Department's immediate connection and commitment to Dharug
people, through to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the
continent and surrounding Islands, and Indigenous peoples around the globe.
