DUTIES

The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for sessional faculty members to teach two sections (including labs) of the following Adult Basic Education Biology course in Fall 2024: BIOL 0600-01 & -L01 and BIOL 0600-02 & L02 (Human Biology) - see course description below:

BIOL 0600: A study of the major principles of human anatomy and physiology from the origin of atoms and elements through to the structure and function of molecules, cells, tissues, organs and body systems. Introduces the basic principles of Genetics and Evolution. Laboratory work involves organizing observations, drawing conclusions and effective communication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least one degree in the discipline to be taught.
  • Teaching Certificate, or Instructor's Diploma, or 5 years teaching experience plus evidence of engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Experience teaching students whose educational, social, and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging.
  • Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred.
  • Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred.
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred.
