Warwick Employment Group (WEG) have a Senior Web Developer opportunity within our IT department for someone with previous Agile development experience who wishes to work on one of the UK's leading job boards.

This role is suitable for a pro-active and experienced developer of PHP-based web applications hosted on AWS to drive the efficient and quality-oriented delivery of new functionality for a website which serves millions of views each year. You will be using technologies such as PHP, MariaDB and AWS to ensure that a highly available, secure and performant system is continually developed and improved for our customers.

Principle responsibilities include: • Designing and developing new functionality • Effectively managing significant pieces of work/projects from a development perspective • Mentoring and coaching more junior developers • Provide recommendations for ways to improve all aspects of the website • Contribute to estimation and planning of upcoming work • Contribute to the continual improvement of both the team and web services • Take ownership of the security, availability and performance of the website, supported by your team and WEG management

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Design, develop and support web applications whilst ensuring that they are reliable, fast, secure and aligned with the needs of the business.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• To design and develop new solutions as directed by management and from the WEG roadmap e.g. new tools and new products.

• Managing the implementation of web development projects, including liaising with our hosting partners

• Propose architectural designs and solutions to ensure systems remain relevant, reliable and performant in the future. The role requires:

o Designs to be presented to internal and external stakeholders as appropriate for review o Presentation of agreed changes to the team

• Provide recommendations for enhancements to WEG services which would benefit users and keeping up to date with technological advances

• Mentor and develop the skills of junior developers in the team - development of junior members of the team is a crucial element of the Continual Improvement processes in place at WEG IT. Note: this does not entail formal appraisals of other team members; it will principally take the form of:

o Regular code reviews of other team members to ensure style, content and quality remains of a suitable standard o Assignment of appropriate work (where appropriate) o Presentations to the team on new methodologies and technologies to be used o Leading pair programming where appropriate, e.g. the understanding of complex programming paradigms and their application to our systems for more junior members of the team on a 1-2-1 basis o Identifying potential training needs within the team before they impact productivity

• Maintain user friendly websites and web services, ensuring sites are accessible, optimised and fast

• Develop new internal operating processes to improve working practices

• Ensure consistent and accurate application of estimation methodologies to planned work
