We are the IT Support Services Team, and we work to provide a wide range of technology services and solutions to support our colleagues and students across the University of Otago, including campuses in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.
In Christchurch the Desktop Support Team provides Windows and Mac support, including mobile devices, is responsible for Video Conferencing and supports the Audio-Video (AV) requirements in the teaching and seminar spaces on this campus.
Shared Services is made up of four key teams; AV and Lecture Theatre Support, eConferencing, Desktop Support, and the Media Production Unit. The Christchurch Desktop Support Team works closely with our teams in Dunedin and Wellington.
The role/Te mahi
This position will see you working as part of our Desktop Support Team on the Christchurch campus, providing effective, reliable operational IT support, advice and recommendations in a way that is easy for staff and students to understand.
You will perform hardware and software maintenance, provide technical support and timely diagnosis and resolution of software and hardware incidents and act as a point of escalation for Desktop Support enquiries. Our team provides these services with a “go the extra mile” attitude.
Key tasks of the role include: • Resolving desktop support requests from staff and students. • Troubleshooting support requests and escalating those which are unable to be resolved at that time. • Working with your customer group to ensure all new purchasing of hardware and software is suitable and fits their needs. • Implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions and prevention in accordance with procedures. • Proactively build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the clients, AskOtago and IT colleagues.
We are looking for someone with expertise in Desktop Support related roles, with a high level of knowledge and experience with desktop operating systems and application software used at the University.

Successful candidates will have: • Experience with Windows and macOS. • Dedication to customer service and exceptional customer delivery. • Experience delivering high quality IT support in a large, complex environment or similar prior work experience. • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to write in a welcoming, informative and non-technical style. • A relevant tertiary qualification or similar level of knowledge gained through prior experience.
