Job Summary
The Systems Administrator III position will be responsible for assisting in
the implementation, maintenance, and support relating to the University Cloud
environment and on-premises virtual infrastructure. The position will assist
in the general production support and maintenance, environment optimization,
and monitoring of various functional areas for SLA/billing/reporting metrics.
Furthermore, the position will also be responsible for providing support to
the Infrastructure and Operations teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of Information Technology at UT Arlington provides premier
solutions and support to our Maverick Community. We are a team of highly

Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing
operability.
Comply with organization systems administration standard operating
procedures.
Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
Perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers
Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning (both physically
and electronically), disk checks, routine reboots, data dumps, and
testing.
Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity,
availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
Check system hardware availability, functionality, integrity, and
efficiency.
Diagnose faulty system/server hardware.
Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
Implement and enforce local network usage policies and procedures.
Oversee installation, implementation, configuration, and support of system
components.
Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other
related field; or equivalent mixture of work experience.
Five (5) years of recent full-time System Administration experience or
equivalent combination of work experience and education.
AZ-305: Designing Microsoft Azure Enterprise Solutions or equivalent
certification.

Advanced degree in information technology or related filed.
Certifications addressing common types of attacks, contingency planning,
critical security controls, concepts, crypto fundamentals, defense-in-
depth, DNS, firewalls, honeypots, ICMP, incident handling fundamentals,
network fundamentals, risk management, securing server services, TCP, UDP,
virtual private networks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to accurately define incidents, problems, and events in the
trouble ticketing system.
Ability to monitor measures or indicators of system performance and
availability.
Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Ability to operate common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute,
nslookup).
Ability to develop, update, and/or maintain standard operating procedures
(SOPs).
Ability to apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational
requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability,
authentication, non-repudiation).
Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network
security methodologies.
Knowledge of measures or indicators of system performance and

Knowledge of server and client operating systems.
Knowledge of systems administration concepts.
Knowledge of organizational information technology (IT) user security
policies (e.g., account creation, password rules, access control).

mitigating risk).
Knowledge of the enterprise information technology (IT) architecture.
Knowledge of systems engineering theories, concepts, and methods.

availability, capacity, or configuration problems.

appliances, network devices).

data backups, maintain system performance, install and configure new
hardware/software).

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information
Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS
eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the
following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony
Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction,
Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor
Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the
last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or
Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
This position requires use of information which is subject to the
