The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

Job description:

Within the Translational Program of KiTZ (https: // www. kitz- heidelberg.de/en/), we are setting up a new PreTrial Unit (Preclinical tRial developmEnt uniT foR pedIAtric oncoLogy). The aim of this unique translational unit is to generate preclinical data packages to support early phase clinical trial development in pediatric oncology based on innovative mechanism of action-based discoveries made by KiTZ groups and cooperation partners.

The scientist will be responsible for clinically focused automated high- throughput drug screening with molecularly fully characterized cell models and zebrafish PDX models. The position will directly supervise a technician and be responsible for data analysis, biomarker validation, reporting and contribution to publication of results.

The PreTrial Unit will be located within the Clinical Cooperation Unit Pediatric Oncology at DKFZ and is closely interacting with other groups of the KiTZ, DKFZ and University Hospital. The unit is supported by a large translational research grant (KiTZ CTU 2.0) from the Dietmar Hopp Foundation.

Requirements:

Applicants should hold a PhD in biology or related fields with strong interests in translational cancer research and considerable postdoctoral experience with outstanding expertise in cell biology, including all relevant assays required for preclinical in vitro and in vivo drug development. We expect a scientist capable of working independently with experience in supervision of technical personnel. Very good communication skills and team player capabilities are key, as there will be close interactions with other researchers, project managers, technicians, the pharma industry and the KiTZ translational advisory board.
