12 month fixed term contract (Maternity cover)
The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow
with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting
of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is
one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work
into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support
from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of
its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an
excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class
metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and
metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness,
accountability, and integrity.
We currently have a position available to provide maternity cover (from
December 2021) in the Growth Factor Signalling and Squamous Cancers
Laboratory. You will primarily be responsible for driving research projects
investigating the role of TGFb signalling in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
using a variety of tissue culture, cellular, biochemical and molecular
approaches. You will also participate in collaborative projects and provide
support for PhD students in the laboratory. The successful candidate will have
a relevant degree and preferentially a PhD. Research experience using tissue
culture models and biochemical approaches are essential. Experience of in-vivo
techniques and possession of a Home Office personal licence would be
advantageous but not essential. Good organisational and people skills and the
ability to multitask and act as a team player will be very important.
