  • The candidates are scientists, with PhD in Physics, and experience working abroad in an international scientific environment.

    Mandatory conditions for scientific positions are prescribed by the Law on Science and Higher Education and the Conditions for Selection to Positions of the Institute of Physics.

    With the application, it is necessary to attach evidence of meeting the mandatory requirements, a letter of motivation with a description of research interests and a short (up to 1 page) program that clearly outlines the plan for the development and financing of research at the Institute of Physics, as well as an extensive curriculum vitae that indicates the applicant's strengths and experience as well as a list of at least three unbiased foreign scientists from whom, in the selection process for the position, the committee can ask for an opinion on the scientific maturity and qualifications of the applicant.

    Theoretical physicist in the field of condensed matter physics and surface physics for work on electron-phonon coupling, ordered states, superconductivity, optical properties, ultrafast dynamics, plasmonics, 2D materials, surfaces and correlated systems. The position is planned as part of the Department Center for Advanced Laser Techniques, within the Group Surfaces, Interfaces and 2D Materials. Candidates are expected to have thorough knowledge of density functional theory, many-body perturbation theory, numerical methods and programming languages. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in attracting project funding, experience in developing new theoretical techniques, publishing in top journals, leading younger collaborators and organizational skills (meetings, workshops).

    Eligibility criteria

    Candidates are scientists with an academic degree of doctor of science in physics, andexperience working abroad, in an international scientific environment.

    Mandatory conditions for scientific positions are prescribed by the Act on Scientific Activity andHigher Education of the Republic of Croatia and the Ordinance on the conditions for election topositions of the Institute of Physics.

    Applicants who have obtained a higher education qualification outside Croatia must enclosethe decision on the Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification issued by theAgency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia or a certificate ofsubmitted application for Recognition of a foreign higher education qualification by the Agencyfor Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia.

    If the candidate exercises the right of priority in employment according to a special law, he isobliged to invoke this right in the application for the competition and has an advantage overother candidates only under equal conditions.

    Selection process

    The application should include:

    1. Proof of eligibility criteria (mandatory conditions)

    2. Motivation letter with a description of research interests and a short (up to 1 page) program that clearly outlines the plan for development and funding of research at the Institute of Physics

    3. Curriculum vitae indicating the experience and the advantages of the applicant

    4. Contact information of at least three independent foreign scientists who may be asked for an opinion on the scientific maturity and qualifications of the applicant

    Applications should be submitted within 30 days from the day of publication of the call in "Narodne novine", the official gazette of the Republic of Croatia. Applications should be submitted to the address natjecaj@ifs.hr in one complete document in pdf format, in Croatian or English. Applicants will be notified of the results of the competition within the legal deadline.

    A valid application is considered to be an application that contains all the information and attachments specified in the call. Untimely and incomplete applications will not be considered nor will applicants with incomplete applications be invited to amend the application. Persons who submit untimely and incomplete applications or do not meet the mandatory conditions for the position are not considered as eligible candidates.
