Senior Researcher - Health Behaviours
Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences
This is an exciting 3 year post with a possible extension to 5 years. The post
will be a key member of the leadership of NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical
Research Centre Preventing Multimorbidities theme.
The postholder will lead the subtheme on developing new interventions for
people with mental illness to prevent the development of multimorbidity,
primarily through intervening on the big four preventable risk factors
(smoking, diet and obesity, physical activity). In particular, the theme is
seeking to understand the coincidence of mental illness and adverse health
behaviour by looking for common causes of both and creating behavioural
interventions that address these underlying causes, thereby improving both
mental health as well as changing health behaviours. You will be supported by
a research assistant and an extended team of colleagues across the BRC.
The successful applicant will have significant knowledge of either working to
improve outcomes for people with mental illness or of behavioural
interventions, with proven skills in study design and research methods to
meaningfully contribute to and provide day to day leadership of the programme

Sciences. The team work on interventions to prevent or treat ill-health by
intervening on diet, obesity, and smoking. We have a strong track record of
applied research that can benefit patients and lead to changes in the health
system. Applicants should also expect to play a substantive role in the
development of the wider research team and enhance the integration of our
research will colleagues across the university. We expect the post holder to
maintain and extend productive relationships with academic collaborators
elsewhere and with industry and policymakers as appropriate. We are committed
to involving members of the public in all stages of our work and the
postholder will receive training, support, and resources to do so. We also
offer a wide range of other training opportunities for researchers building
their career in applied health sciences.

You will be based at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences,
Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock
Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG.
The post is available full-time and is fixed term until November 2025.
